Since our Masterplan was approved in January 2019, we have made huge progress on The Red Sea Project from design, build and contract awards perspectives. See all our latest updates below.
Captured by one of our new time-lapse cameras, foundation work is being carried out at our Coastal Village Management Office by Al Majal Al Arabi Group. Once completed later in 2020, the offices will accommodate up to 500 staff.
First delivery of prefab units
Watch as we take delivery of the first prefabricated units for our 14,000-person Coastal Village. Using Off-Site Manufacturing to minimize the environmental impact of construction, the units were built in a new factory in Rabigh.
Ever wondered what the difference is between ordinary and green concrete? Check out this video as we celebrate the pouring of the first batch of green concrete produced by Al Falah to meet existing and upcoming project demand while adhering to our sustainability goals.
Airside contract award
We awarded our biggest contract to date to an all-Saudi joint venture between Nesma & Partners and Almabani for airside infrastructure works for the destination’s international airport, set to open in 2022.
The contract was awarded to support the creation of a sustainable gateway which will open up Saudi Arabia to the world.
We awarded a medical services contract to International SOS – Al Rushaid to provide all medical services across the development during the initial construction phase of the project. The agreement ensures that the highest quality medical care and assistance is provided to the site’s estimated 28,000 construction workers as well as the project’s staff and visitors over the next two and a half years.
Waste Management Contract
We awarded a three-year solid waste management contract to a joint venture between leading waste management company Averda and the Saudi Naval Support Company (SNS). The partnership involves collecting and recycling waste generated by administration offices, residential facilities, and construction activities, meeting the high environmental standards set for the project and with the goal of ‘zero waste to landfill’.
Major contracts were awarded in 2019 in our journey to meeting our targeted phase 1 completion date of 2022. In the space of one week, we awarded four contracts collectively worth SAR 1 billion ($266M) to Archirodon (enabling marine infrastructure), Saudi Group Al Majal Al Arabi (5,000 units of Construction Village), an ARCCO-Speed House joint venture (another 5,000 units of Construction Village) and Saudi Amana Contracting (management hotel).
This was soon followed by contract awards for the development of Coastal Village residential area to Al Majal Al Arabi, Coastal Village ground-work improvement to HUTA Hegerfeld and Saudi Consulting Services (Saudconsult), the design for the destination’s international airport to Foster + Partners, the construction of the coastal and inland connecting road links at the destination to leading Saudi Arabian contractor Binyah and the supply of structural low-carbon concrete to AlFalah Ready Mix.
