The region is crisscrossed by trading routes that date back to the Nabatean
civilization, reflecting the history of the region as a part of the Incense Trail
and the maritime spice routes, as well as its position on the pilgrimage route from
Egypt to the Holy Cities of Makkah and Madinah. Visitors can walk in the footsteps
of the ancient traders and explore the relics they have left behind. The Nabatean
City of Mada’in Saleh, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is in close proximity to the
Red Sea Project, ideally placed for fascinating excursions.
