Innovation will be at the core of the project. Smart technologies including augmented and virtual reality, will enhance enjoyment of the destination whilst protecting its ecological framework.
Technology will ensure the experience of visitors is seamless, personalized and of the highest standard, using such measures as biometrics, virtual concierge services and centralized journey planning
It will help to effectively limit over-tourism and preserve the environment. Measures will include personal carbon footprint trackers and sensors to monitor the environment, such as water salinity and tidal flows
Gartner wins technology contract
We're pleased to award a contract to Gartner for the provision of technology procurement and advisory services across smart destination development, IT and cybersecurity to serve the ambitious needs of TRSDC and The Red Sea Project.
MachinesTalk wins IoT contract
We're pleased to award a contract to leading Saudi Internet of things (IoT) service provider MachinesTalk for the provision of smart wearable technology and wireless tagging solutions for our construction workers and fleet of vehicles at The Red Sea Project.
Tourism, properly harnessed, can and must serve the needs of the environment if it is to be sustainable in the long term. Technology can be a huge asset, monitoring and thus protecting the environment.
Our aim is to set new standards in sustainable development, respecting the natural world, creating opportunities for the local communities and protecting the destination for the future. Where the technology does not yet exist to realize our ambitions, we will work with innovators to develop them.
Knowledge gained and lessons learned will be shared with the rest of the world, inspiring other destinations and supporting the conservation of multiple coral reef eco-systems.
We aim to be the world leader in environmental sustainability across planning, construction and operation. Developmental, regulatory, and technological measures will ensure we protect, preserve and enhance the natural environment.
The master plan is informed by a comprehensive marine spatial planning simulation that predicts a 30 percent net conservation benefit which will be achieved by enhancing biologically diverse habitats including mangroves, seagrass, corals and land vegetation. And sensors throughout the destination will monitor environmental markers to provide consistent feedback of the surrounding waters as well as aridity and wind patterns inland.
Additionally, we are committed to creating a sustainable workforce and community. It is anticipated the project will employ around 35,000 people and will support an equivalent number of jobs in the wider community by creating opportunities for local businesses, entrepreneurs and supporting industries.
A principled approach
We are developing a regulatory framework that comprises innovative policies and strategies to facilitate our ambitious sustainability and regeneration commitments. This includes the regulation of fisheries, removal of invasive species in the area, conservation zones and the expansion of green and blue habitats to encourage regeneration and carbon sequestration.
100% reliance on renewable energy
75% LEED Buildings Accreditation
30% net positive conservation impact
75% of the destination’s islands will remain undeveloped
Less than 1% of the total Project area (28,000 square kilometers) to be developed
9 islands designated as special conservation zones
Marine Spatial Planning
In partnership with King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), we developed a ground-breaking marine spatial planning simulation – utilizing software specially developed in the Kingdom – to assess developmental impact and enhance biodiversity.
Brains for Brine
Where solutions do not yet exist for sustainability challenges, we are seeking the innovators and experts that can help us solve them. Our Brains for Brine initiative looks for sustainable solutions for the management of brine discharged from the water desalination process.
The destination will be underpinned by an extensive smart digital destination management system supporting a range of seamless, highly personalized products and services designed to appeal to luxury travelers.
